Julie McEvoy wins Spitfire Arms Cash Spiel

Julie McEvoy (Halifax, NS) wins the Spitfire Arms Cash Spiel, defeating Jill Brothers (Halifax, NS) 6-5 at the Windsor Curling Club in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada. McEvoy with Danielle Parsons at third, Sheena Moore and Jill Thomas on the front end take home the $2,000CDN first place cheque along with 19.950 world ranking points, while Brothers receives $1,400CDN and 15.675 world ranking points for their second place finish.

After McEvoy opened the scoring stealing 1 in the first end, when Brothers responded in the second end scoring 3. McEvoy scored a single in the third end, then forced Brothers to a single in the fourth end. McEvoy scored 3 in the fifth end to take a 5-4 lead, then forced Brothers to a single in the sixth end. After a blank end, McEvoy scored a single the eighth end to break the tie and win 6-5.

In the semifinals, McEvoy defeated Stacie Curtis (St. John's , NL) 7-4 and Brothers defeated Kristen MacDiarmid (Halifax, NS) 7-6. MacDiarmid and Curtis earned $1,000CDN and 12.113 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, McEvoy defeated Veronica Smith (Charlottetown, PEI) 6-1, Brothers defeated Mary-Anne Arsenault (Halifax, NS) 7-1, while Curtis defeated Kaitlyn Jones (Chester, NS) 7-4 and MacDiarmid defeated Mary Mattatall (Halifax, NS) 6-5 in an extra end. Mattatall, Smith, Arsenault and Jones earned $650CDN along with 8.550 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

McEvoy went 2-1 in the 16 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, McEvoy defeated Colleen Jones (Haifax, NS) 4-2, losing their next game to Mattatall 6-4, then responded with a win over Nancy McConnery (Windsor, NS) in their final qualifying round match.
