Bruce Mouat wins Dumfries Challenger Series

Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, Scotland) wins the Dumfries Challenger Series, defeating Jan Hess (Zug, Switzerland) 5-3 at the Dumfries Ice Bowl in Dumfries, Scotland. Mouat with Grant Hardie at third, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr. on the front end take home the $6,904CDN first place cheque along with 15.737 world ranking points, while Hess receives $3,452CDN and 12.365 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Hess scored 1 in the first end, then forced Mouat to a single in the second end. Mouat added a steal in the third end, then forced Hess to a single in the fourth end to tie the game at 2. Mouat scored a single in the fifth end, then added a steal of 2 in the sixth end. Hess scored a single in the seventh end but conceded in the 8th end after running out of rock with Mouat taking home the title with a 5-3 win.

In the bronze medal game. Mikkel Krause (Taarnby, Denmark) defeated Andrin Schnider (St. Gallen, Switzerland) 6-3. Krause won $2,071CDN, while Schnider won $1,381CDN along 9.555 ranking points for their finishes.

In the semifinals, Mouat defeated Krause 7-6 and Hess defeated Schnider 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Mouat defeated Stefan Staehli (Bern, Switzerland) 7-2, Krause won 6-2 over Stuart Marshall (Arbroath, Scotland) 6-2. Hess dropped Fraser Hare (Dumfries, Scorland) 5-4 and Schnider defeated Bjorn Jungen (Adelboden, Switzerland) 7-5. Staehli , Hare, Jungen and Marshall earned $863CDN along with 6.745 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Mouat went 3-2 in the 18 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Mouat lost 5-1 to Marshall, then responded with a 7-1 win over Nicholas Shaw (Barcelona, Spain). Mouat won against Hamish Gallacher (Dumfries, Scotland) 9-3, losing their next game to Krause 8-6, then responded with a 9-3 win over Christian Bangerter (Bern, Switzerland) in their final qualifying round match.
