Sweden Advances to Ford Worlds Final

Sweden Anna Hasselborg defeated Russia 7-6 in Ford Worlds Semifinal.

North Bay, Canada - For Sweden's Anna Hasselborg it has been a busy couple of months. Winners of the Olympic Gold Medal in Pyeongchang, Hasselborg and her team of Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer and Sofia Mabergs are looking to add a world title to their trophy case after knocking off Russia's Victoria Moiseeva in the first semifinal at the Ford World Women's Curling Championship at Memorial Gardens in North Bay.

We're playing a lot of games to put ourselves into this position, and I think this was the best for for the week," said Hasselborg following the game. "I'm so hapy with the team performance."

Hasselborg opening the game with hammer due to their round-robin placement scored two to open the early lead with Moiseeva bouncing back with two of their own in the second end. After blanking the third end, Hasselborg was heavy on a draw for two in the 4th end that saw the Swedes settle for a 3-2 lead. A blank end by Moiseeva in the 5th end where they hit out from the start saw a close match after the break.

"It was very important that we came into the game with hammer and we took the early two," said Hasselborg reflecting on the game. "I think we just managed the scoreboard, we played just a little bit better."

In the sixth end, the breakthrough came for Hasselborg when the team changed game plans, throwing a centre guard and attacking Moiseeva. In trouble all end, Moiseeva faced three on her last, attempting a long double tap to score, which floated wide removing only one of the Hasselborg counter but still gave up a steal of two.

Leading 5-2, Hasselborg forced Moiseeva to a single in the seventh end, then after two perfect tick shots by Mabergs in the eighth end, Hasselborg had a open hit and roll for two more and a commanding 7-3 lead. Russia added two in the ninth and a single in the tenth but came up short.

"Before the season, we said we wanted to medal at the Worlds, now we have won the silver and tomorrow I hopefully want to win a gold," said Hasselborg on her team's goals coming into the season.

Hasselborg advances to the Gold Medal game, being played Sunday at 3pm ET and will face the winner of the Canada (Jennifer Jones), USA (Jamie Sinclair) semifinal being played this evening at 7pm ET. Moiseeva will face the loser in the Bronze medal game tomorrow morning at 10am ET.
