Matt Dunstone wins Prestige Hotels and Resorts Curling Classic

Matt Dunstone (Regina, SK) wins the Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic, defeating Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC) 8-5 at the Vernon Curling Club in Vernon, Canada. Dunstone with Braeden Moskowy at third, Catlin Schneider and Dustin Kidby on the front end take home the $5,000CDN first place cheque along with 23.495 world ranking points, while Cotter receives $4,000CDN and 17.230 world ranking points for their second place finish.

After Cotter opened the scoring stealing 2 in the first end, Dunstone responded in the second end scoring 2. then added a steal in the third end to take an early lead. Cotter scored 2 in the fourth end, then forced Dunstone to a single in the fifth end to have hammer into the sixth end. Dunstone got the important force on Cotter, then scored 2 in the seventh end to take the lead and added a steal of 2 in the eighth end for the 8-5 win.

In the semifinals, Dunstone defeated Tyler Klymchuk (Kamloops, BC) 8-2 and Cotter defeated Sean Geall (Kelowna, BC) 12-8 in an extra end. Geall and Klymchuk earned $2,500CDN and 13.314 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Cotter defeated Daniel Wenzek (Langley, BC) 10-9 in an extra end, while Klymchuk defeated Josh Barry (Vancouver, BC) 11-6. Barry and Wenzek earned $2,000CDN along with 9.398 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Dunstone went 3-0 in the 12 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Dunstone defeated Klymchuk 8-1, then won against Deane Horning (Castlegar, BC) 10-1 to advance to the A-Qualifier game where they defeated Brayden Carpenter (New Westminster, BC) 6-2 to reach the playoff round.
