Cameron Bryce wins Prague Classic


Cameron Bryce (Skelleftea, Sweden) wins the Prague Classic, defeating Borys Jasiecki (Sopot, Poland) 7-3 at Curling Arena Praha Roztyly in Prague, Czech Republic. Bryce with Simon Granbom at third, Johannes Patz and Filip Stener on the front end take home the $7,465CDN first place cheque along with 15.758 world ranking points, while Jasiecki receives $5,225CDN and 11.556 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Bryce scored 3 in the first end for the early lead. After a blank end, Bryce stole the third end, with Jasiecki responding in the fourth end scoring 2 to trail 4-2. Bryce scored a single in the fifth end, then forced Jasiecki to a single in the sixth end. Bryce scored a single in the seventh end, then added a steal in the eighth end for the 7-3 win.

Mikhail Vaskov (Moscow, Russia) defeated Karel Kubeska (Prague, Czech Republic) 6-3 in the bronze medal game. Vaskov won $3,732CDN along with 9.455 ranking points, while Kubeska won $2,239CDN along 8.404 ranking points.

In the semifinals, Bryce defeated Vaskov 9-7 and Jasiecki defeated Kubeska 6-5. In the quarterfinals, Bryce defeated Sebastian Wunderer (Kitzbuehel, Austria) 7-4, Jasiecki defeated Wille Makela (Hyvinkaa, Finland) 5-2, while Kubeska defeated Lukas Klima (Prague, Czech Republic) 8-6 and Vaskov defeated David Sik (Prague, Czech Republic) 6-4. Wunderer, Makela, Klima and Sik earned $1,120CDN along with 6.303 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Bryce went 3-1 in the 20 team round robin - pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Bryce lost 9-3 to Andrew Reed (Kent, England), then responded with a 9-2 win over Harri Lill (Tallinn, Estonia). Bryce won against Krystof Tabery (Prague, CZE) 8-6, then won against Vaskov 6-5 in their final qualifying round match to advance to the playoff round.
