Alina Paetz wins Stockholm Ladies Cup

Alina Paetz (Zurich, SUI) wins the Stockholm Ladies Cup, defeating EunJung Kim (Uiseong, KOR) 9-8 in an extra end. Paetz with Nadine Lehmann at third. with Marisa Winkelhausen and Nicole Schwaegli on the front end take home the $16,979CDN first place cheque along with 55.164 world ranking points, while Kim receives $10,095CDN and 43.343 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Kim scored 3 in the first end, with Paetz responding in the second end scoring 2. Kim scored 2 in the third end to extend the lead to 5-2 when Paetz scored 4 in the fourth end to take their first lead of the game. Kim and Paetz traded deuces over the next two ends. After a blank end in the 7th end, Kim was held to a single point in the 8th end sending the game into an extra end where Paetz scored one for the 8-7 win.

In the semifinals, Paetz defeated Cory Christensen (Blaine, USA) 5-2 and Kim defeated Anna Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, SWE) 7-6 in an extra end. Hasselborg and Christensen earned $5,048CDN and 33.493 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Paetz defeated Sophie Jackson (Dumfries, SCO) 6-4, Kim defeated Silvana Tirinzoni (Aarau, SUI) 6-4, while Christensen defeated Bingyu Wang (Harbin, CHN) 5-3 and Hasselborg defeated Anna Sidorova (Moscow, RUS) 6-3. Tirinzoni, Jackson, Sidorova and Wang earned $3,365CDN along with 23.642 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Paetz went 4-0 in the 20 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Paetz defeated Tova Sundberg (Ostersund, SWE) 6-5, won against Daniela Jentsch (Fuessen, GER) 6-5, against Hannah Fleming (Lockerbie, SCO) 6-5, and won again versus Christensen 4-2 in their final qualifying round match to finish the round-robin undefeated.
