Julie Tippin wins StuSells Toronto Tankard

Julie Tippin (Woodstock, ON) wins the StuSells Toronto Tankard, defeating Chrissy Cadorin (Thornhill, ON) 5-2 at the High Park Club in Toronto, Canada. Tippin with Chantal Duhaime at third, Rachelle Vink and Tess Bobbie on the front end take home the $5,000CDN first place cheque along with 35.629 world ranking points, while Cadorin receives $2,500CDN and 27.994 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Tippin scored 1 in the first end. After blanking 2 ends, Cadorin scored a single in the fourth end to tie the game at 1, then forced Tippin to a single in the fifth end. Cadorin and Tippin traded singles in the sixth and seventh end leaving Tippin with a 3-2 lead heading into the final end without hammer. Tippin held off the Cadorin pressure, stealing two for the 5-2 win.

In the semifinals, Tippin defeated Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay, ON) 6-5 in an extra end and Cadorin defeated Hollie Duncan (Toronto, ON) 9-6 in an extra end. Duncan and McCarville earned $1,750CDN and 21.632 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Tippin defeated Jennifer Armstrong (Fredericton, NB) 7-4, Cadorin defeated Tracy Fleury (Sudbury, ON) 5-3, while McCarville defeated Jacqueline Harrison (Mississauga, ON) 7-5 and Duncan defeated Hailey Armstrong (Ottawa, ON) 6-2. Jennifer Armstrong, Hailey Armstrong, Harrison and Fleury earned $1,500CDN along with 15.269 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Tippin went 4-0 in the 18 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Tippin defeated Eve Belisle (Montreal, QC) 4-2, then won against Mary-Anne Arsenault (Halifax, NS) 8-3, Kerry Galusha (Yellowknife, NT) 6-5, and Fleury 6-5 in their final qualifying round match to advance to the playoffs undefeated.
