Dailene Pewarchuk wins Kamloops Crown of Curling

Dailene Pewarchuk (Victoria, BC) wins the Kamloops Crown of Curling, defeating Patti Knezevic (Lake Country, BC) 8-5 at the Kamloops Curling Club in Kamloops, Canada. Pewarchuk with Rachelle Kallechy at third, Adina Tasaka and Patty Wallingham on the front end take home the $4,500CDN first place cheque along with 22.807 world ranking points, while Knezevic receives $2,500CDN and 17.920 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Pewarchuk scored 2 in the first end, added steals in the second, third and fourth end. Knezevic scored 2 in the fifth end to trail 5-2, then forced Pewarchuk to a single in the sixth end. Knezevic scored 3 in the seventh end to close the deficit to one point, but Pewarchuk responded in the eighth end scoring 2 for the 8-5 win.

In the semifinals, Pewarchuk defeated Kesa Van Osch (Nanaimo, BC) 9-1 and Knezevic defeated Kim Slattery (Vernon, BC) 6-5. Van Osch and Slattery earned $1,500CDN and 13.847 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Knezevic defeated Lori Olsen (Kamloops, BC) 7-6 in an extra end, while Van Osch defeated Corryn Brown (Kamloops, BC) 8-5. Brown and Olsen earned $1,000CDN along with 9.774 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Pewarchuk went 4-0 in the 15 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Pewarchuk defeated Van Osch 6-5, won against Diane Gushulak (New Westminister, BC) 8-5 and Kelly Shimizu (Richmond, BC) 8-2. Having clinched a playoff berth with 3 wins, Pewarchuk finished strong winning 5-4 against Kerry Galusha (Yellowknife, NT) in their final qualifying round match.
