New Arena at Red River Ex Grounds?
The proposed new arena at the Red River Ex grounds is supposed to seat 5,000. I realize this is still a long ways off, but could this finally mean that Winnipeg will host a provincial men's Safeway Select championship? Or a National Scotties Tournament of Hearts?

It's the busiest arena in Canada right now. They have no interest in hosting a curling event. Takes up too much valuable ice time. When it's just hockey they can play game after game after game...when curling is in the building, there is no room/time for hockey...It's unfortunate because it's beautiful new midsize arena.
If they did allow a curling event they would probably charge so much that event would be better off somewhere else.
Who knows, if the game keeps growing they may see the light. Especially if they make the money at the gate and concessions.

Hey "The Yap"... busiest arena in Canada???? It hasn't even been built yet, and I highly doubt it will be the busiest arena in Canada. Obviously you didn't read the previous posts!

Listen here you Hack! lol..yeah, missed out on the proposed part. Thought he was talking about the IcePlex. I would be interested to know why and who is proposing the arena. Could be a possible Training center? Moose coming back? Would be cool to have a "Saville" type center here.

actually the mts centre 15,000 seats is real busy - the ice plex is west of perimeter - 4 rinks - it hosted the fontaine hockey tournament this weekend - $30,000 first prize and the place was packed
im guessing 2800 seats would be lots for a curling slam if it is televised ... we went to the BDO every draw for years but would probably watch it on tv now --- things are changing quite a bit ... i think vancouver 2010 was a peak - 7 mil - interesting to see what happens after sochi... guessing the brier and scott will be the main events and others will fade - even the brier tv numbers were lower - down 500,000 - less than the scott -
the mens worlds could be quite low - the womans final 700k abt was abt 1/2 the scottie 1.6 mil
