NB Tankard
So the numbers for this year's NB Playdowns are set at 20 as we speak.
1 team, James Grattan, is already in the final 8s because they won the Curl Atlantic event.
2 teams are not playing in the Preliminary but will compete in the Wildcard
17 teams are to play at the first preliminary where 3 teams will qualify for the final 8. The other 4 spots will come out of the Wildcard.

Results so far. A few surprises already. Also see a couple scores of a 7 ender, 6 ender, 5 ender, and 4 ender. Weird but then again, could be a mixture of adjusting to the ice or the newly sanded rocks.
Standings so far...
Dobson 2-0
Grattan 2-0
Eldridge 1-1
Mallais 1-1
Odishaw 1-1
Vaughan 1-1
Lecocq 0-2
Sullivan 0-2

Looks like the usual suspects are left in New Brunswick. Experience gets LeCocq and Odishaw into the semis, and they will battle to get to the final. Can either of these two take down Grattan?

Terry Odishaw takes down Grattan in the Final! Congrats Terry Odishaw, Andy McCann, Scott Jones, and Grant Odishaw. Best of luck in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in March!

Oh oh. Looks like a brier without Grattan from NB? Usually that means a 1-10 record at best. A definite upset.

Another dumb comment from an anonymous unsuccessful curler. This team will not win it all but will probably take down one of the top teams.
Would love to be around for the " predict your percentage" pool.

Upset only in the fact that James Grattan was the 4 time defending champ. But don't take any light away from the talent on the Odishaw team.
Grant Odishaw has been to the Brier I think 9 times now? Many times with Russ Howard. Definately has always been one of the top leads when he was at the Briers with Howard. He also has many appearances at the Mixed and has won it in the past. Lost a Brier final. This guy has a lot of talent.
Scott Jones has been to the Brier in 2007 on the Dobson rink. Yes their record that year was not that great but as a rookie team in a Brier with so much talent, it was a great stepping stone. He then skipped NB at the 2009 Mixed with a record of 5-6. Has lost the 2009 NB Tankard Finals to Howard and is now going back to the big show.
Andy McCann has played with many teams with Brier experience such as Mike Kennedy and Jim Sullivan but still lacked the experience of getting to one except for the one year that he was at the Brier with Grattan as 5th man. His time had come to represent the province and should fair well in Saskatoon.
Terry Odishaw has been to the Brier in 1998 with a young team. Has been a couple times as fifth, once or twice with Russ if not mistaken. Has lost atleast 4 NB Tankard finals and is now back at the show looking to makeup for all the times he just missed going there. He has also won the Mixed Nationals.
Only time will tell as to how well they fair in Saskatoon but it should be a nice homecoming for the Odishaws. I'm sure true NBers will be rooting for them and hoping they do well. They may not be James Grattan but the talent on the team is just as good and they will want to win any game that they enter just as much as anyone else that is out on that sheet of ice.

NB
The best team won NB no question. Watched the game and as soon the Grattan team got behind they were dead. The skip starts smashing his broom and the 2nd and 3rd can't draw at all. Rocks on guards and through the rings. Very good hitters though.Congrats Team Odishaw-with some of the teams that are already in the Brier I see anywhere from 5-6 wins.

I watched the game too. Best team won that day. Grattan's team was struggling the first 3 ends and a pick drawing against 3 doesn't help anyone. Might have had something to do with Grattan showing frustration. Handled it better than most would have. With relegation just around the corner for the Scotties and Brier I hope this team does well. I don't have high hopes but I wish them luck.

Well the Grattan team record the last few years would not produce a good result for relegation either so what's your point about hopes or this team? Bottom 4 for NB at the last 2 Briers.

Grattan is a great curling club curler but not a good arena ice curler. Only good Brier was pre-free guard zone when you could hit everything. Just too defensive and lost to the more aggressive Odishaw who is a better skip with rocks in play.

I don't usually reply to these comments but this one made me laugh. Clearly you do not have a clue. Grattan has 6 Brier appearances as a skip and I think 4 more as third. All of these since 1997. He is by far the best skip and shot maker in this province.

Let's assume for the sake of arguement that you are right, which, for the record I do not believe you are, at the end of the day winning NB is not by any stretch of the imagination a reflection of overall ability. If you are right, which again I would suggest you are biased, being the best skip in NB is the equivalent of being the best kindergaten hide and seek player. I am not suggesting that James is a solid player but he is but who cares if he is the best skip in NB, on the national stage that and 1 dollar gets you a cup of coffee. That is great that you jump to your boys defence but it does not matter what team we send, the record will never be better than 6-5(outside playoffs) because there is no one in this province that is playing enough against the top competition to get to that level. I am not knocking any of them because it takes alot of money that not many have, it is just the reality. Gushue does well because he is on the tour playing against these guys all the time on great ice. No one in NB is doing that, period end of discussion. The problem is no one gets it, even the team we are sending this year is naive, in an interview the skip suggests that he has played all the team and has beat them and lost to them, well guess what they haven't. They have not even played most of them except maybe Grant. Bottom line is until a team in NB gets the kind of money it takes to play all over the country against the top team every weekend we face having to qualify for the brier from now until the end of time.

i always thought that if james could have gotten out more and had better options to choose from he could have done more at the brier

This one is comical. Odishaw a better skip? Come on. Gratton lost on a pick people, that's the only reason he's not going to the brier. Let's move on to another discussion.

Does anyone know if there are any changes in the team lineups in NB for the next season?

Unsure about Dude's team but i doubt any changes there. You USUALLY do not change a Brier team unless you had major issues.
Heard the rumor that Grattan has the two Roach brothers playing for him next year. My guess is that Peter Case is still playing lead. Charlie and Steve are out.
As for any other teams, have not heard anything. My team has changed. Marcel Robichaud will be throwing skip stone for my team. I will be calling the game and throwing 3rd. Shane Longley at second. Luc Savoie at lead.
