Who invented that curling term 'catcher'?

I had to mention it because our pal Vic Rauter seems to be the only one between the others Linda and Russ who I have not heard speak that term? when describing a shot. maybe it was Herr Vic 's own way of keeping one up on the rest of them in the broadcast booth

Funny you ask actually....

It was Marc O'Connor while playing second in a mixed bonspiel in Kamloops, BC. Correct me if I am wrong, but was it not late in October 1964?

i think its borrowed from other sports .. baseball , similar to " unforced error " which comes from tennis i think ... they tend to get over used a bit by announcers who have to talk about 3 hours a game as many as 12 games in a busy week .. " we have the hammer " has been around for 50 years .. but "he has hammer " seemed to become popular with vic abt 20 years ago ..

Great catcher, maybe the greatest. But my bets on Yogi Bear.

Sorry you feel that way. Why the term is used is obvious. But lets be honest, where and who started it is pretty much impossible to figure out. You open up another can of worms when you start to question the intelligence of the posters, some of us are only havin' a bit of fun.
Fresca gave you as good as an explaination as you're likely to get.
