Nixon / Kleibrink combo no more
Amy Nixon has left the the Kleibrink team to form a new, younger team with a goal of qualifying for the 2018 Olympics.

WoW - didn't see this one coming!!!
I think Amy saw how Heather & Beth cut thru the Scotties field like hot knives thru butter and decided she'd have a better chance doing things her own way than just being fiercely competitive with Shannon.
Don't know whether Amy will go the Jennifer Jones route and pick up a hot junior like Chyz to play the Baby Lawes role or more veteran presence.
If Nedohin collapses at the worlds I could actually see Amy pick up Iskiw.
Other possible thirds would be Crystal Webster (depending on how solid the relationship Crystal has cemented with GL & Carmody).
Temporarily she might bring Shannon Kleibrink on board is Shannon figures she's better as a veteran third than banging her head against the door as skip with watered down teams.
Other wildcards might be Krista McCarville (subject to a move), Chelsea Carey (if willing to relocate) or Lana Vey. (these three women all under 30)

Isn't that something? An amicable split, discussed beforehand. No blindsiding. Mutual respect goes a long ways. Good luck to all involved.

Wait, this means we're going to hear Amy yelling for 6 rocks an end instead of two? AWESOME!

In order for a split to be amicable, all parties involved must also be amicable and reasonably behaved. Very often this isn't the case. This is obviously the best case scenario.....good on them, and good luck to them.

A good thing lasts only so long and they had great success, which each girl can look back on with fondness. Hope Shannon keeps in the game, but I am guessing her goals are a lot different now that her kids are older. Not sure if Bronwen and Chelsey are still intense enough for another run, as life can get in the way of curling success. Amy has proven that she still has a desire so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her join forces with some young guns… think news will come out shortly about who so I won’t spoil Al’s thunder.

only you would see best friends split after going to worlds together. Iskew is going nowhere. A tough worlds bout would only solidify that team further. Especially when Oly trials are in their grasp.
McCarville has a family, you get off that horse of her moving provinces. Chelsea Carey is an accomplished skip on her own right. Nixon could move to MB to play third...haha
Not having anything set up yet may bit Amy in the azz, but she did state that next year is going to be personal life orientated. Planning for the 2018 Olys, she has plaenty of time to find and groom a squad.

If curlers like Larouche, Carmody/O'rourke, Kleibrink, etc. can get to Scotties finals I see no reason Noisy Nixon can't....

on topic, this is a surprise. It kind of makes sense though because shannon's best days are definately behind her and if amy wants to continue to stay at the top then this is a smart move.
i do wonder what amy will go with. she could pick up some younger team like chyz or maybe peterman
or maybe she'll link up with kauffman

Let me put it this way... you don't jump off the ship until you're sure there is a lifeboat... and I'm sure Amy already knows who... just not the right time yet to say, not even to the big Al. Fun to see some of the suggestions... from people not even familiar wih our area.

I'm a little surprised she didn't finish the quadrennial with Kleibrink, just to give Sochi a go. They would have had a shot. I guess she feels this is her chance to get the team she wants.

I say good for her, she is a great curler. Loud yes, but a great shooter none the less.
I wonder if there are any other teams splitting up, or players jumping to another ship?

There lies the surprise. Using an Olympic trials year to severe her existing team and start building for 2018. Why not finish out the with Shannon (one of the legends of Alberta curling) and even ask to skip the squad (to get valuable experience) with Shannon tossing 3rd stones?
