CCA Mentoring

Team Jacobs' recent announcement that Steve Gould will be their #CCA Team Mentor for the coming season got me thinking about the CathyOh Mentoring following her release from Team JJones.

Do players who have a financial (and event) stake in CCA at the time of their release get an opportunity to "work off" their relationship with CAA, continuing win/win situations for both association and athlete? Do they have an option for a cash payout? Does the releasing team have any obligation in this matter (to the CAA and/or the athlete)?

What is really going on behind closed doors? Or is it transparent? Is there a policy on this?

Good questions. I'm sure we'd all like to know how this works. Are there other "mentors" currently working behind the scene??

The recent dissolution of Team Holland came to mind. It hadn't been promoted as being a "mutual" thing, rather that Amber had decided to move on, leaving the Schneiders dangling with some CCA support but no team. We'll see what comes of their situation. Do we have to speculate? Clearly, their CCA association (spelled $$) makes them desirable as teammates. (skills aside).

Yes. It is an interesting program, that seems kind of unofficial, that has been underway for a while. I guess the "funded athlete" who has been ousted, would have some leverage in the decision.

I wonder whether CASH is an option, or whether CCA makes it more favourable to WORK for the entitlement (curling or mentoring).

And yes, can teams go on a list for this kind of eventuality, or do they contact the ousted athlete directly?

Its called Paul Webster and the Old Boys club at he CCA spending government that is given to the CCA for the own the podium program...complete waste of money! They make a budget then have to spend it. Sounds like the CCA gets plenty from the Olympic Funds and are looking for new ways to spend it. SO they find new ways to increase their contribution. Their discretion where and who they give it. I am certain Webster's wife gains from the CCA spending....

There were also the discarded members from Bernard's team. They claimed it was mutual, but did the teams they ended up playing with get their share of the $$$?

And the Schneider sisters? There are enough situations to warrant a formal policy, I'd think.

Agreed and family members cannot be part of the decision process.
